Former Chief Justice Ahmed Faaiz has stated that the Supreme Court's decision to deny the use of confidential testimonies in the case filed to nullify the results of the presidential election shows progress in the Maldivian judicial system.

The statement came after the Supreme Court rejected the request by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's lawyer to present three confidential testimonies to the electoral case.

Faiz took to Facebook and stated that the rejection of the secret witnesses by the Supreme Court could increase the people's trust in the electoral case.

In the 2013's Presidential Elections, the results were annulled based on the statements by secret witnesses. The verdict was supported by four out of the then seven judge-bench in the Supreme Court.

He also highlighted that Islam discourages taking secret witnesses.

President Yameen had filed a case at the Supreme Court to annul the elections, claiming that the results were tampered with.
