Locally renowned religious scholar Sheikh Adam Shameem stated that Indian Immigration did not give him a reason when he was deported from Trivandrum back to Maldives.
Shameem tweeted upon his return to Maldives on Sunday, revealing that he was detained for more than 30 hours.
According to him, the officials did not give any specific reasons for his detention but had questioned him about his career and educational background.
The Maldivian Ambassador in India Ahmed Mohamed stated that it was reported that Shameem was detained due to security concerns. However, he did not give further details about it.
The religious scholar travelled to India for medical treatment for his father, along with his brother. Although Shameem was rerouted back to Maldives, his father and brother were allowed to enter India.
