Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) on Thursday stated that certain local media stations exhibited bias, in their coverage of the presidential election held on September 23.

BroadCom's President Mohamed Shaheeb highlighted that according to their surveys, most media outlets had clearly favoured a particular candidate.

Speaking at a press conference, Shaheeb pointed out that even Public Service Media (PSM) was biased in their content coverage, despite possessing a particular responsibility to provide impartial awareness, being a state-run media company.

Shaheeb also briefly mentioned research carried out by BroadCom, which concerned twenty-eight cases filed under the Anti-Defamation Act.

However, he did not disclose further details on the cases.
