India on Monday congratulated the new President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on his electoral win and expressed hope for improved relations between both nations.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs released a statement commenting on the unexpected majority of 58.4 percent achieved by candidate Solih, and urged the Elections Commission (EC) to publicise a formal result at the earliest opportunity.
An impressive 88.22 percent of the 262,135 eligible voters cast their ballots in the presidential election held this Sunday.

India had repeatedly expressed concerns regarding the Maldivian political situation during the past five years, with tensions peaking after the landmark ruling issued by the Supreme Court on February 1 this year.
