Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb's lawyer Moosa Siraj was remanded for six days by the Criminal Court on Friday.
Siraj was arrested on Thursday for allegedly spreading false information about President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on behalf of the jailed former VP.
Maldives Police Service searched the house of the former on Friday morning.
As per the court order, the search warrant was issued to find evidence regarding the reports that stated President Yameen’s involvement in these alleged crimes.
In addition, the police searched for evidence regarding the issue of Siraj spreading false information about public institutions and for usage of foul language in preparing documents.
Criminal Court Judge Ismail Rasheed approved the warrant from 2:30 p.m. on Thursday for 72 hours and had allocated five hours to search Siraj’s apartment.
After searching Siraj's house in his presence, a hard drive, pen drive and afive5-page document were confiscated by the police. He was then taken back to Police Headquarters.
Ahmed Adheeb is serving a 33-year jail sentence over a number of convictions, including embezzlement and an assassination attempt on the president. His lawyers have been releasing statements regarding the president since his arrest and conviction. Siraj had also released statements in which President Yameen was accused of various criminal acts.
