Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to pardon the fines of pending rent payments for the flats in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale.
In a statement released Thursday, HDC stated that the decision was made with the counsel of the government, in a move to provide the ease accorded to citizens under the government's policies.
HDC did not disclose the number of flat recipients facing penalties, or the total sum of the fines. However, local media Mihaaru reported that, according to sources, some of the fines amount to over MVR 100,000.
HDC added that the company will arrange easy settlement methods for pending payments in the future as well.
