President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has vowed to connect Hithadhoo and Meedhoo in Addu Atoll via a bridge similiar to the recently developed Sinamale' Bridge, connecting reclaimed suburb Hulhumale and capital city Male'.

President Yameen is currently on an official trip Addu Atoll to mark the completion of development projects in the atoll. Speaking at a ceremony held at Hulhumeedhoo, Addu Atoll, the President vowed to connect Hulhumeedhoo to Gan with a bridge.

According to the President, the development of a can be completed without any complications. He noted that once the bridge is built, the whole of Addu Atoll will be connected as one.

"Perhaps the next time I visit Addu, I will go from Hithadhoo to Meedhoo on a bridge," said President Yameen.

President Yameen further expressed that, although Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo are separated from the rest of the atoll, both islands must be developed as part of the city.

Additionally, the president pledged to build an Islamic Center between Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, solve the problem of erosion in Meedhoo and assured the people that arrangements will be made for the citizens of the atoll to be able to pay vehicle fees from the island itself.

The ceremony marked the initiation of sewerage systems, water supply systems, housing units and the Addu Fisheries Complex, and further marked the completion of the shore protection project in the island.
