Speaking at his campaign stop in Colombo, Sri Lanka, opposition coalition's presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) recognized the number of Maldivians living in Sri Lanka in some form of "self-exile" and assured that they would be allowed immediate return to Maldives should he win the upcoming elections.

"God willing, as soon as we succeed the government, we will seek a solution to the prison violence suffered by the individuals who are incarcerated, as well as unenslave any Maldivian in exile, giving them the freedom to return home as soon as possible", said Ibu.

Ibu also mentioned one of the biggest problems faced by the Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka as being the arrangement of 'Aasandha' services, the national healthcare insurance scheme of Maldives, as well as the availability of better healthcare options. Further recalling the fair healthcare system introduced by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) during their government, Ibu stated that the current government failed to continue it. He extended his speech affirming that 'Aasandha' should not be catered to select people.

He also highlighted the issues faced regarding higher education and pledged to make free education available within the Maldives. Furthermore, he vowed to introduce a loan scheme that would facilitate Maldivian students studying overseas as well.

"I will make sure that active students currently studying overseas are able to subscribe to this loan scheme", asserted Ibu.

Ibu expressed his gratitude and appreciation towards the Sri Lankan government and further assured an even better relationship between Maldives and Sri Lanka in the coming five years supposing the opposition came to power.

Concluding his rhetoric, Ibu pointed out the continuous criticism directed at the opposition by the ruling party questioning their capability of fulfilling their pledges. Rebutting this, Ibu reinforced his plans to rule justly and without 'stealing' from the government budget.
