President Abdulla Yameen has expressed his hope that the people of Maldives progress forward, in unity and friendship.
Offering greetings on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the president said that the importance of unity in Islam is evident from the practice of Hajj pilgrimages, a pillar of the religion.
"Eid al-Adha is a day of kindness and happiness among the Muslim community. A day that serves to strengthen lasting feelings of brotherhood, friendship among Maldivians", said President Yameen, highlighting that citizens should reinforce such relationships.
Continuing his speech, he addressed Eid al-Adha greetings to Muslims around the globe.
As all government offices and institutions have closed operations for a week in celebration of Eid al-Adha, many locals have reportedly been partaking in jubilant festivities around the Maldives, as well as in different parts of the world.
