Newly opened guesthouses numbered at 56 for the first quarter of 2018

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) reports that 56 new guesthouses have begun operations in the Maldives during the first quarter of 2018.

According to the Quarterly Economic Bulletin released from the central bank, the newly opened guesthouses as well as resorts carry a bed capacity of 3,849 beds, with the total number of tourist beds in service being numbered at 40,893.

In addition, MMA observes a 10 percent increase in the accommodation of tourist beds, as well as a newly registered 3,579 tourist beds during the first three months of 2018.

The total number of registered tourist beds are now numbered at 41,726 as tallied at the end of March 2018.

MMA further states an increase from 122 resorts in operation during the first quarter of 2017, to 129 resorts in the first quarter of 2018.

The Ministry of Tourism has confirmed a total number of 476 guesthouses and 129 resorts in operation, tallied at the end of June 2018.
