Opposition leader Ibrahim "Ibu" Mohamed Solih, pledges to curb the authority held by Maldives Immigration to issue permits to expatriate workers, should the opposition coalition come into power.

"There are a number of illegal expatriate workers currently in the Maldives. This has been one of the contributing factors of a decrease in job opportunities for locals. According to some sources, a total of 300, 000 foreigners are currently residing in the Maldives", said Ibrahim Solih while speaking at a campaign stop in B. Kamadhoo.

"As the first step to finding a solution to this problem, we will limit the authority of Maldives Immigration in permitting foreign workers into the Maldives."

Claming that Maldives is in dire need of a government that does not embezzle its people, Ibu asserted that if this notion is achieved, basic needs will undoubtedly fulfilled for all.

While speaking at another campaign stop in Kudarikilu, Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Solih claimed that basic needs such as drinking water and sewerage system facilities are withheld from the people of Maldives because of the afore mentioned embezzlement of government funds.

Moreover, he highlighted that most islands in Baa Atoll do not have these basic needs.

"We have visited most of the islands in this atoll and that the common insufficiencies on every island are basic needs for the people of this atoll, including Kudarikilu", said Ibrahim Solih.

Ibu further elaborated that a government focused on integral service to the public would not find it arduous to fulfill all the basic needs to their people, stating that with a properly allocated budget for major projects, providing of basic needs would not be a difficulty.

While speaking in B. Kamadhoo, Ibrahim Solih also criticized the current government and President Yameen.

"The question I would like to ask today is why was a previously allocated 54 million dollar project [for the new wing of IGMH] settled to a 142 million dollar bid? This is information that needs to be clarified to the public."

"President Yameen has said that the people of the Maldives do not want to know what happens to every allocated budget. They just want to see the results. That isn't how it should be, Maldivians need to know where their tax money is taken forward and to exactly what project it is allocated for", said Ibrahim Solih.

Stating that the biggest threat faced to peace in the Maldives is the loss of justice Ibu went on to say that the Supreme Court should fight to make all courts independent.

According to Ibu, for these changes to come underway, there are necessary amendments to be made to the constitution.

"Supreme Court is currently controlling all courts by abusing its power. I believe that this is the biggest challenge faced by the judicial administration because the courts need to be independent and their power needs to be restored. God willing, we would see this change come about with much needed resolutions" said Ibrahim Solih.
