Ten people were rescued after their dinghy capsized in Laamu Atoll on Monday.
According to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), nine local men and an expatriate woman had been travelling between the islands of Gasgandu Finolhu and Bodufilolhu when their dinghy capsized due to bad weather and rough seas.
MNDF rescued them with assistance from the local people, using another dinghy. The rescued people were first taken to a nearby uninhabited island, Mahakanfushi, before transferring them to Gan.
All ten were in good health, MNDF added.
Following the rescue, MNDF's Central Area Coast Guard commenced work to save the capsized dinghy and tow it to the island of Baresdhoo.
