ACC Muawwiz and JSC Faisal pursue High Court vacancy

The vice president of Anti Corruption Commission's (ACC) Muawwiz Rasheed and the vice president of Judicial Service Commission's (JSC) Mohamed Faisal have applied to be judges serving at the High Court of Maldives.

Currently, two slots remain empty from the 11 lawyers required to serve at the High Court. The vacancies come after the assignment of former High Court lawyers Abdulla Didi and Abdula Ganee Mohamed as judges of the Supreme Court.

in a statement given to Mihaaru News, Muawwiz Rasheed confirmed that he had indeed submitted his application.

An ACC member from 2009, Muawwiz served as the commission's vice president of the since 2014.

JSC member Faisal, who had been assigned to his current post by President Abdulla Yameen, has also confirmed his application.

According to sources, Faisal has not been taking part in JSC-led work since he put forth his application.

High Court lawyers earn MVR 54,000 including salary and allowances. In addition, they are also entitled to a substancial communication-related allowance.
