Jumhooree Party (JP) has fixed to elect an opposition coalition running mate from JP to presidential candidate Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) member Ibrahim Mohamed ‘Ibu’ Solih, on the upcoming Friday.

The running mate election was rescheduled as the party charter renders running mates a duration of five days, after the opportunity opens to contest for the joint ticket.

JP party council had also earlier rescheduled the election of a coalition running mate to Saturday from its initial date on Tuesday.

President of JP, Ali Waheed, stated that the party council will hold a secret vote amongst members during a meeting on Friday night and elect an opposition coalition running mate from the applied members of the party.

JP president further assured that the elected running mate of the party will favour both the opposition coalition and the public.

Kendhoo MP Ali Hussain, Kaashidhoo MP Faisal Naseem, former minister of the President’s Office Abdulla Ameed, JP Vice President Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and JP deputy leader Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan have all expressed interest in representing JP as running mate to the opposition coalition for the upcoming elections slated for September 2018.
