Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to reclaim Maavaru lagoon in capital Kaafu atoll for the development of four resorts.

Tourism property development and management company, Good Catch Private Limited, acquired Maavaru Falhu in May 2018. The contract with the reclamation of total four islands in Maavaru Falhu, was handed over to MTCC last week.

According to the MTCC’s Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Ziyath, the company will begin the project of land reclamation within 10 – 15 days using cutter suction dredgers.

The company revealed that eight hectares of land from the lagoon, which stretches to a length of three kilometers, will be reclaimed within 60 days during the first phase of the project.

The company also reported that they will be building five- to seven-star tourist properties in the reclaimed land, which will be a major progression in tourism.
