A mother of a five-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday over child abuse allegations.
According to sources, the woman is a 27-year-old mother who was living separately from her husband. She was arrested for causing serious injuries to her only child, after a police investigation upon receiving reports on the matter.
The son was taken to state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) where he received treatment for the sustained injuries.
Police are currently probing further into the case. The arrested woman has been remanded for a period of 10 days by the Criminal Court.
Ministry of Gender and Family have temporarily placed the boy under foster care.
Gender ministry recorded 560 cases of violence against children until June this year. Violence against children include cases of physical violence, sexual abuse, neglect, emotional abuse, bullying and harassment, and domestic violence.
