Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said on Wednesday that, lands taken from people of Seenu Atoll's Hithadhoo during former president Mohamed Nasheed's regime, will be given back to previous owners starting from next week.
The minister tweeted on Tuesday that the President has decided to return the land plots to people of Addu.
At the Progressive Party of Maldives's campaign gathering held in Addu recently, the current governement had announced their decision to return the land plots.
At the time, the Minister for Economic Development Mohamed Saeed said that, the land plots will be released soon, under policies that are yet to be revealed by the government.
During the preparation for SAARC sumit held in Addu duing Nasheed's presidency, plots of land near the Equitorial Convention Center were seized from islanders in order to develop the area.
At the time, equivalent compensation had also been assured for the land plots that were taken.
