President Abdulla Yameen and First Lady Fathmath Ibrahim Friday morning exchanged greetings with the public on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr, at Rasrani Bageecha in the capital Male.
Crowds began queuing at the revamped historic park near the Islamic Centre at around 9 p.m to greet the President and the First Lady. The queue extended all the way to Hukuru Miskiy.
The couple spent two hours conveying greetings to the public. President Yameen had even posed for some 'selfies' with his supporters.
Besides members of the public, top officials of the state and foreign dignitaries, including the Indian Ambassador to Maldives Akhilesh Mishra had greeted the the President and the First Lady Friday morning.
The President's Office had extended the invitation to members of international organisations and members of non-governmental organisations, as well.
This year, refreshments and gifts were given to the people that gathered to greet the couple.
This is the president's last public Eid greeting before the presidential election scheduled to be held September 24.
