Singapore Airlines (SIA) is preparing to launch the world's longest commercial flights between Singapore and New York using the new Airbus A350-900ULR (ultra-long-range) in October.

Flights are to be launched on October 11, 2018, to Newark Liberty International Airport. Initially, there is to be three flights per week, departing from Singapore on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Daily operations will start from October 18 after an addition A350-900ULR aircraft enters the services.

Chief Executive Officer for Singapore Airlines, Mr Goh Choon Phong said, "Singapore Airlines has always taken pride in pushing the boundaries to provide the best possible travel convenience for our customers, and we are pleased to be leading the way with these new non-stop flights using the latest-technology, ultra-technology, ultra-long-range Airbus Airbus A350-900ULR."

The aircraft will be configured to a two-class layout, with 67 Business Class seats and 94 Premium Economy Class. Flights will cover a distance of approximately 9,000nm (16,700km), and travelling time will be up to 18hrs 4 mins.

The A350-900ULR will offer passengers a more comfortable traveling experience between the two cities, with features such as higher ceiling, larger windows, an extra body and lighting designed to reduce jet-lag. The aircraft's carbon composite air-frame allows for improved air quality due to a more optimised cabin altitude and humidity levels.

Non-stop Singapore-Los Angeles flights are also with the A350-900ULR, details of which is to be announced at a later date.
