The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Monday decided to appoint Judge Ahmed Hailam as the chief judge of the Criminal Court.

Judge Hailam was appointed to the Criminal Court in January.

The post of Criminal Court’s chief judge has been vacant since its previous chief Judge Abdul Baaree Yousuf was shifted to the Juvenile Court last year.

Judge Ahmed Areef has been the acting chief judge of the Criminal Court until JSC’s recent decision.

JSC members had also voted on a chief judge for the Juvenile Court and the Drug Court during its meeting on Monday.

Juvenile Court’s Judge Saeed Ibrahim would be appointed as its chief, while Judge Abdul Sattar Abdul Hameed is to be appointed as the chief of the Drug Court.
