New US ambassador to be appointed to Sri Lanka, Maldives

The President of the United States of America Mr. Donald Trump, has nominated Ms. Alaina Teplitz as US ambassador to the Maldives.

The President of the United States of America Mr. Donald Trump, has nominated an American ambassador to the Maldives.

Representing the US to Sri Lanka and Maldives is a career diplomat and the current United States Ambassador to Nepal, Ms. Alaina Teplitz.

The nomination has been sent to the US Senate for Confirmation. If confirmed she will replace the current envoy to Colombo Mr. Atul Keshap, who has held the position since 2015.

Keshap is regarded as being a vocal diplomat; having voiced his concerns regarding human rights issues and government policies in the Maldives on several occasions.

Teplitz is a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor.She had previously worked for the US State Department in several roles overseeing Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Central Asia.
