Maldives Customs Tuesday revealed that approximately 1.74 kilograms of ‘party drugs’ were shipped to the Maldives via post within the last two months.

A spokesperson from the customs said that there were 24 incidences in March and April where drugs were shipped to the Maldives via post. All of the drugs have since been confiscated by the authority.

The customs officers have been running operations to counter the import of these drugs to the country, he said.

According to customs, the drugs are mostly shipped to the Maldives from the UK, Greece, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands.

The variations of drugs that were shipped to the Maldives in the last two months include ecstasy and other amphetamines, methamphetamines, methadone as well as heroine.

The haul drugs have been handed over the police, and it has officially launched an investigation into these incidences, the spokesperson said.

The police have repeatedly warned the increase of the use of ‘party drugs’ amongst Maldives’ youth in the recent years.e
