With the increasingly dismal numbers of tourists from China, the number of tourist arrivals in the Maldives in June recorded a drop of three percent.

According to statistics publicised by the tourism ministry on Tuesday, the highest decrease in June arrivals was from China with 8,653 visitors. While the number is ten percent drop from June 2015, it is still the highest number of tourists recorded from a single country.

The second highest number of visitors in June hailed from the United Kingdom with 5,893 tourists, while the third highest was from Germany. However, the number of German visitors had decreased by 6.3 percent from last year.

The occupancy rates of tourist resorts and cruises had also dropped by 3.9 percent in June. However, the total number of visitors to the Maldives this year by the end of June was 619,921, which is a spike of 1.8 percent from the first half of 2015.
