The opposition coalition is set to meet Maldives Correctional Service over the political members of the opposition arrested after the Supreme Court's landmark ruling on February 1.
Main opposition Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) stated that the party leaders and opposition lawmakers plan to meet Correctional Services at 1:00 pm Wednesday.
President Yameen Abdul Gayoom declared a state of emergency in the country after the Supreme Court’s ruling to release nine political prisoners. The former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Judge Ali Hameed were among the top profiles arrested under the SOE. All the political detainees arrested under the emergency have been remanded until the end of their trials.
