Maldives Police Service has begun investigating an Indian laboratory technician working at a clinic in southernmost Addu Atoll, who had allegedly confessed to killing his lover in India.
Gururaj Kishore was arrested Tuesday under a court warrant, the police confirmed. However the police did not disclose why he was arrested.
According to Indian news outlets, Kishore in July 2006 confessed to killing his lover Tanya Benaji in Bangalore. She was reportedly stabbed 35 times. The Indian media had even published Kishore’s photographs.
Mihaaru is aware that the incident was reported to the police in Addu City.
Kishore began working at the IMDC clinic in Hithadhoo, Addu City in 2014. Reportedly, he had falsified documents and came to the Maldives under the false name ‘Baskeer Srivesta’.
In 2016, Kishore had moved to a clinic in Feydhoo, Addu City where he continued to work until he was arrested.
The clinic where Kishore was employed at, at the time of his arrest, was unavailable for comment.
