The first laparoscopic surgery performed in Maldives was completed in ADK hospital on Thursday.
The three-hour surgery took place in the 'Sunrise Theater' in ADK hospital in the capital Male.
The Managing Director of ADK Ahmed Aflaal shared a series of pictures taken during this procedure on social media. There was a 3D colour image of the patient’s organs among them.
Aflaal's tweet said: “witnessed the first ever 3D high definition laparoscopic surgery done in the country today. Images giving surgeons the clarity & confidence to do complex laparoscopic surgeries. This surgery took over 3 hours on a high risk patient. Amazing technology at the Sunrise Theater.”
ADK recently opened a cardiac catheterisation laboratory and an operation theater with the latest technologies. The 'NOVADAQ SPY' system installed in ADK is known to be one of the handful of such machines in South Asia.
