A man died in an accident in Addu City's Link Road late Saturday evening.
Mohamed Rashmu Riyaz, 28, of Hithadhoo died in the accident which took place between a car and a motorcycle.
According to Hithadhoo Regional Hospital (HRH), Rashmu, who was driving the motorcycle, was pronounced dead upon arrival. From some photographs taken by witnesses, he suffered a lot of major injuries including several broken bones.
Rashmu, who worked as a bus driver for Leo Shuttles that provides bus services to Shangrilla Resort employees, was on his way to work when the incident took place. An employee of Leo said that they tried to contact him as he was late for his 7:00 p.m. shift. He added that when Rashmu did not respond to the calls, they had assumed that he was on his way to work.
HRH stated that his body was badly mangled, with most of his bones crushed and his limbs twisted. Senior community health officer Mohamed Najeeb told Mihaaru that his body has been handed over to his family who are preparing for his funeral.
Najeeb also said that the three people who were in the car were also taken to the hospital for treatment. However, none of them suffered any major injuries.
While the front of the car was almost entirely crushed, the motorcycle was badly damaged as well. Both vehicles were removed from the scene on Sunday by Addu Police.
