National Integrity Commission (NIC) has started to monitor the actions of Police in breaking up the recent string of opposition gatherings.

An official from the commission stated that they have been going to the gatherings since Tuesday and closely monitoring the actions of the police. The official added that they are working on compiling reports to submit to the members of the commission.

Members and supporters of the opposition have been protesting since the state refused to follow through with the ruling of the Supreme Court on February 1 to release political prisoners and reinstate unseated legislators. The opposition has been raising concerns as the police have been breaking up the gatherings each night.

The commission commenced monitoring due to concerns of police brutality against the participants of the opposition and journalists covering the events.

NIC is an independent body that investigates the cases related to the police, Immigration as well as Customs and Correctional Services.
