The counsel general of the parliament Fathimath Filza sparked speculations Tuesday when she walked out of the parliament chamber ahead of the vote on extending the state of emergency.
According to the opposition, the counsel general, who gives legal advice to the parliament left as she was unhappy with the proceeding. The opposition claimed that she had advised against proposing the resolution to extend the state of emergency.
However, these claims have not been confirmed yet, as Filza was not available for a comment regarding the incident.
The declaration to extend the state of emergency period by an additional 30-days was passed Tuesday evening with 38 voting in favour. Opposition MPs had boycotted the sitting.
