Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh denied recent rumors of his resignation.
The rumors sparked after he handed over the proceedings of the parliament to the deputy speaker, Moosa Manik, and left soon after the sitting started on Monday.
Maseeh confirmed that he was not resigning during a press conference of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives, when Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla made a public phone to the speaker.
PPM’s parliamentary group leader Ahmed Nihan stated that Maseeh left early in order to attend to an important meeting. The leaders of the party urged not to spread rumors as such.
The parliament is holding extraordinary sittings regarding the resolution on extending the state of emergency declared by the president on February 5.
