Police on Sunday announced that six people, including two minors, have been arrested over two cases of arson in the southernmost atoll of Addu City.

The group had set fire to two houses in Hithadhoo ward of Addu atoll last week Sunday. The fire was set to a playroom in one house, and a bedroom in the other. The bedroom was burnt beyond use while the smoke also damaged an adjacent room in the second house.

According to the police spokesperson, the court has remanded the two minors for seven days and the others for 15 days.

Police claimed that the objective of the arson attacks was to ignite public unrest.

Meanwhile, the police have also arrested two people for setting fire to an electricity distribution board in capital Male last Wednesday night.
