Four people have been arrested from the rally at the main opposition Maldives Democratic Party’s (MDP) main hub late Thursday.
Thimarafushi MDP leader Anwar Ibrahim, Madhuvaree MDP leader Moosa Ali Manik and two other activists from the party. So far, the reason for their arrest has not been made clear.
These arrests came after MDP had raised concerns about the police unlawfully breaking up peaceful gatherings organised by the party.
The police arrested five people from a gathering by MDP on February 10, who are still in police custody, as the Criminal Court had extended their remand.
