Ministry of Health's state minister Hussain Rasheed resigned from his post on Monday.
In the letter he sent to the President Abdulla Yameen handing over his resignation, Rasheed said that he is resigning due to the governments' refusal to implement the Supreme Courts verdict. He added that the top priority of the government should be to protect the fundamental human rights of its citizens.
Rasheed said that prolonging implementation of the order, and questioning the work done by other state institutions is not acceptable to hiim.
Rasheed was a board member of the Anti-Drug Agency and the Vice Chairman in the governing board of the drug control agency of Maldives. He had resigned from all of these posts as well. In his letter, thanked the President for the opportunity to serve the people of Maldives.
Following the Supreme Court’s order to release several imprisoned political leaders and reinstate the formerly unseated MPs , several members of the government had resigned due to its delay in enforcing the court order.
