The education ministry signed agreements on Monday with four foreign universities which are offering higher education scholarships to Maldivian students.
In a ceremony held at the ministry, education minister Dr Aishath Shiham signed the agreements with two universities of Malaysia and a university in India, and Sri Lanka.
The universities offering scholarships to Maldivian students are UCIS & Management & Science University from Malaysia, Lovely University from India and E-soft Metro Campus of Sri-Lanka.
Through the agreements signed, 230 scholarships with complimentary course fees will be available and 1,095 partial scholarships with discounted tuition fees will be available to Maldivian students.
The ministry stated that these universities would offer additional help for Maldivian higher education.
The government has been providing various opportunities for higher education. In addition to the opportunities for 5,200 students in the last four years, there are currently 2,050 scholarships available.
