Maldives plans to hold International Youth Forum

Minister of Youth and Sports Iruthisham Adam declared on Monday that plans are underway to hold an International Youth Forum in the Maldives.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Youth Forum held to mark National Youth Day, Iruthisham stated that the government encourages youth participation in promoting social harmony and national development. She added that based on the experience from this forum, plans are underway for the Maldives to hold an International Youth Forum.

The minister also stated that the government wants to highlight the opportunities available for the youth and get their views on various issues.

Furthermore, she said that the papers compiled at the forum would be presented to the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. According to Iruthisham, more reviews at academic levels would follow at universities and the papers compiled will be presented for further discussions next year.

The one-day Youth Forum was attended by the Maldives National University, Islamic University and more than 100 participants from different colleges.
