Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed admitted Wednesday a shortage of lawyers in the archipelago leading to inequality in right to legal representation.
Speaking after inaugurating a national legal aid conference the chief justice stressed on the importance of providing awareness, facilities and information to ensure justice continues to prevail in the country.
The right to legal representation must be equally available to every citizen regardless of social stature, he added.
"Lawyers is one of the most important facilities the state can provide for its people," he stressed.
So the state must facilitate a system to provide legal aid for all without discrimination, Saeed added.
