The Ministry of Finance has today publicized the details of the salary
revisions for civil servants and employees of other state institutions.
The
ministry's website revealed the changes affecting staff across eight sectors.
These sectors include: Business and Administrative Services; Educational
Services; Health Services; Information and Communications Technology Services;
Legal, Culture, and Social Services; Protective Services; Science and Built
Environment Services; and Secretarial, Skilled, and Elementary Services.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu previously announced in a social media post
last September that, through the ongoing pay harmonization efforts, the
salaries of all civil service employees, all Judiciary employees, and all
Council employees who have not yet received a pay raise will be increased
starting tomorrow.
The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that the full details
of these salary changes will be released tomorrow.
A media official from the Ministry of Finance explained that the salaries
and benefits within the new Pay Framework are determined based on factors such
as the expertise required for the profession, the workload, and the working
environment. The official noted that the framework will consider the inherent risk
of the profession when determining salaries and benefits. While a separate
"risk allowance" may no longer be provided as before, the new salary
and benefits package will include compensation for individuals exposed to such
risks.
The Ministry has assured that the basic salary for all civil service
employees will not be less than the minimum wage. Furthermore, an official
stated that if an employee's total current salary and allowances are reduced under
the new Pay Framework, a "migration allowance" will be provided to
them to cover the difference.
The Ministry of Finance has also established the
specific procedures for issuing this migration allowance.
It is noted that the previous administration had already increased the
salaries of principals, teachers, nurses, and doctors. The equalization and
harmonization of salaries for all remaining non-harmonized civil service
employees and Judiciary staff were included in the current state budget.
A
total of MVR 500 million has been allocated in this year's budget to harmonize
the salaries of civil servants and judicial staff. According to the latest
statistics released by the Civil Service Commission last May, the Civil Service
currently employs 30,436 individuals.
