Shaheeb Ibrahim, previously arrested for drug smuggling, is wanted by Criminal Court

Shaheeb Ibrahim, 47, of GA. Villigili, previously arrested in 2020 for smuggling 130 kg of drugs on a fishing boat, has been released after being remanded only once.

Police announced today that he is now wanted in connection with a case at the Criminal Court, though the exact reason is unclear.

Shaheeb was granted bail after his 2020 arrest, despite police presenting additional evidence. He was also linked to a 2019 Iranian drug-smuggling vessel but was released along with seven Iranian nationals arrested in that case.

A former PPP/PNC political activist, Shaheeb ran for Parliament in 2019 under the opposition coalition. He is also accused of involvement in an alleged illegal flat extortion scheme during former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration.
