Following power disruption in Addu due to electricity cables being damaged, Fenaka has issued a public appeal asking to refrain from such acts.

Fenaka Corporation, which provides electricity services in Addu, said that the power cut in Addu on Friday night had been due to the central power station going down as a result of an electricity shortage caused during an individual's attempt to damage the cables in Substation 41.

Electricity was restored after about four hours in which Fenaka worked to resolve the issue.

In addition to causing damage to company property, such acts cause serious inconvenience to the public, Fenaka said. It also poses risk to life to those involved and others.

Fenaka assured that they are actively working on finding a permanent solution to the electricity issues faced in Addu.

The individual who had attempted to damage the cable suffered electrocution, and is currently under treatment at Addu Equatorial Hospital. He sustained a wound to his head, and burns across his body.

Addu has been facing repeated power cuts due to issues with generators. Fenaka has previously said that the issue will be resolved once a new power house has been built.
