Kinbidhoo MP and former Commissioner of Police Abdulla Riyaz was summoned to the police on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to the press after coming out of Police Headquarters in capital Male, MP Riyaz revealed that he was summoned for questioning for allegedly inciting violence amongst the public. The police had also accused him of making false statements, he said.

MP Riyaz, who is also the deputy leader of opposition Jumhoory Party (JP), had denied the allegations and stated that they were politically motivated claims.

The Kinbidhoo lawmaker is already facing charges for trespassing and obstruction of law enforcement officers for entering the parliament building on July 24 whilst the police were barring entry. He was amongst 12 MPs who were charged during the commotion that took place outside the parliament.
