The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has refuted claims circulating on social media suggesting it plans to alter the structure of employee salary payments, specifically the portion disbursed in US dollars.
In a statement released, the company categorically denied the rumors, stating that there have been no discussions—formal or informal—about removing or reducing the dollar component of staff remuneration.
“These rumors are being spread with the intent of undermining the significant efforts currently underway to open the new terminal at Velana International Airport,” the statement read.
MACL affirmed its commitment to maintaining existing salary and allowance policies, which include dollar payments in line with established procedures. “The company will continue to pay its employees’ salaries and allowances by the rules and regulations that have been in place, without any changes,” it said.
The company, which operates the country’s primary international gateway, reiterated that it has no intention of modifying salary structures in the future. It also underscored its regard for its workforce, calling employees its "most valuable asset," and emphasized that any future decisions will always be made in their best interest.
MACL concluded by urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and calling for responsible communication, particularly during this critical period of operational expansion.
