Police have said today that they are yet to identify a suspect in the case where 18kg of drugs being smuggled into the country was seized.

The drugs were seized on June 10 from an air cargo shipment brought via Bangalore. The substances in the shipment have tested positive for cannabinoids.

The ship had drugs concealed in it separately packed in over 30 packets. These were hidden in pots of plastic trees and in other parts of the products.

The seized drugs weigh 18.62kg, with a street price of MVR 26 million.

Customs initially detained a Bangladeshi resident who went to receive the goods. He was later released as the Police investigation did not find any involvement on their part.

Police said that no one else has been arrested in relation to this case since then. They also did not disclose the name of the company which imported the goods as this is an ongoing investigation.
