Air Force, Navy and Army will be established: President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced last night that an Army, Navy and Air Force will be established within Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), adding that it is an honour to increase MNDF capacities.

The President made this statement while speaking at the ceremony held last night at MNDF Kalhuthuhkalaa Koshi to commemorate MNDF's 133rd anniversary.

The President said that enhancing MNDF's operational capacity should be a matter of pride for all citizens, stating it is 'nothing to be embarrassed about'.

'If you are embarrassed when various equipment is acquired for MNDF, then you must question yourself where your love for the nation is. Ask yourself 'Am I someone who loves the Maldivian nation?' All citizens born to the Maldives must have national pride," he said.

President Muizzu said that working to enhance MNDF capabilities is an act done to ensure continued independence for the country. He described those who criticize such efforts as lacking patriotism and being self-serving.

The President also highlighted the importance of establishing strong securities measures especially towards protecting Maldives' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

He also announced that applications for National Service will be opened soon.

At the ceremony, the President also launched a new ribbon introduced by the MNDF to honour health and fitness within the force. Awards for exceptional service was also presented to officers and units.
