Economic Minister Mohammed Saeed yesterday said that the country and families are being harassed in the name of running political parties, and that this would not be acceptable by the youth and civilised Muslims.

He made the comments in response to former Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed's remarks about President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in a People's National Front (PNF)'s meeting on Thursday night.

In a video that made rounds on social media, Jameel was seen saying "heaven is haram [forbidden] for those who are deceitful," even if they prayer Fajr [early morning prayers].

"No matter how much [broadcast on TV] to pray Fajr, there is a hadith [a narration], the hadith says that if someone is deceitful, Allah will forbit heaven for them," Jameel said.

Jameel's remarks were followed by Naif Shaukat's, who said people wish for President Mohamed Muizzu's death, and that this was the topic of discussion even at coffee tables.

Minister Saeed's response to these statements were made via a post on X, in which he said that a person [Jameel] had called the public "incompetent" and "uneducated" before being unable to control himself and leaving the stage in a video seen from the 2007 governance model referendum.

Although Saeed did not mention anyone by name, Saeed said that same scenario was seen 17 years later as well.

"These people are insulting the country and their families in the name of running political parties. These are not things that educated youth and many civilised Muslims would accept," he said.

"With a mic in hand, consciousness out the window, [these people] are violating the dignity of wives, children and families," Saeed said.

"[They] are going to the point where [they] may be forced to repent for assuming the powers of forgiving sins, admitting [souls] into heaven and hell, [powers] which are exclusive to Allah. May the Maldivian Islamic Ummah [community] be protected from these poisonous tongues," Saeed's post continued.

Compared to those who talk this way, President Muizzu is a different, strong and gentle, [and] beautiful in character, who would uphold the dignity of others, he said.

Saeed said there was no victory in "losing sanity" over President Muizzu's efforts to fulfil his promises, which are succeeding and gaining him the people's love.
