The Judicial Service Commission suspended Ahmed Rasheed, a judge of the Criminal Court, late Wednesday.

The suspension was announced at a JSC meeting chaired by the commission’s Vice President Mohamed Faisal. Mihaaru understands that Judge Ahmed Rasheed is suspended in connection to a case JSC is currently probing.

JSC had also summoned Ahmed Rasheed and taken his statement earlier that evening.

While the commission has not announced an official reason for Judge Ahmed Rasheed’s suspension, a reliable source told Mihaaru that JSC made the decision over a certain comment Rasheed made to Adam Arif, who is the acting Chief Judge of the Criminal Court.

Judge Ahmed Rasheed has been serving at the Criminal Court for three years. He had recently been taking on cases related to drug smuggling and homicide.

Following his suspension, there are currently four sitting judges in the Criminal Court.
