Police have apprehended two out of five expatriates that escaped from the detention centre in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale, Maldives Correctional Service announced Monday.
MCS’ spokesperson Ahmed Lugman stated that the two expats were found in capital Male. MCS and Police are still working to capture the remaining three.
According to Correctional Service, the five escapees are Bangladeshi nationals who were detained under various accusations. They escaped by breaking a tin fence in the centre’s compound in the early hours of Friday.
“They weren’t convicted. They were being detained until they could be deported,” MCS had said.
