Maldives Customs has apprehended a foreigner who was attempting to smuggle drugs in to the Maldives, the authority revealed on Monday.

According to an official from Customs, a 23-year-old Bangladeshi man was searched upon arrival for acting “suspicious” last Wednesday.

When the officials searched him, they found a large haul of amphetamines in his luggage, the official claimed.

Maldives Customs confiscated approximately 690 pills, weighing a total of 71 grams from the Bangladeshi man.

Customs in association with the police have apprehended a few foreign nationals this year thus far for attempting to smuggle drugs in to the Maldives.

Early in June, customs seized over seven kilograms of cannabis from a Bangladeshi national. The street value of the drug was estimated to be close to MVR 2 million.
