The High Court on Thursday concluded the appeal hearings of the remands of Villingili MP Saud Hussain and Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth.

The Criminal Court had ordered to remand the two lawmakers for 15 days after they were arrested for forcibly entering parliament premises on July 24 despite the Elections Commission’s decision to oust them from their seats for defecting from their original parties.

The lawmakers had appealed their remands at the High Court and the separate appeal trials ended Thursday. If neither of the parties involved have any more issues to clear up regarding the trials, the court will issue its verdict in the next hearing.

Apart from MPs Waheed and Ameeth, Police had also arrested Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim under the same accusations. The Criminal Court added four days to his remand on Wednesday after his initial 15-day remand expired.

The three lawmakers have filed at the Supreme Court to overturn the Elections Commission’s decision to oust them. The apex court has accepted and commenced trials for their cases.
