President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Asia Human Resources Development (HRD) Awards 2017 held late Tuesday.

The award was accepted on behalf of the president by the Maldivian Ambassador to Malaysia, Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, at the ceremony held in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

The President’s Office stated that the president was conferred the award in appreciation of his contributions to nation-building and people development, and for his support to experts in Human Resources Development.

President Yameen declared in his video acceptance speech that the award is a collective victory for all the people of the Maldives, which will spur innovative changes in the future.

The president in his message shed light on ongoing and impending projects for national development, including plans to take economic progress to higher levels and overcome the challenges currently faced.

He also highlighted his vision to establish the Maldives as a prosperous and harmonious nation with independent, empowered and self-sufficient people.

President Yameen added that the Maldives currently boasts the highest GDP per capita in the South Asian region at nearly USD 8,000. He noted that this is a significant spike from 50 years back when the amount stood at under USD 200.

The Asian Human Resource Development award is part of the Asia Recruitment Awards produced by the ‘Human Resources’ magazine, which is a publication of Lighthouse Independent Media. It is Asia’s only regional award which recognises outstanding human capital strategies.
