Police arrested 12 suspects late Sunday in connection to the murder of Ahmed Anas last week.

According to Police spokesperson, the 12 people were arrested from Asareehiyaage house in Maafannu ward of capital Male during a special operation. The prime suspects actively involved in Anas’ murder are also believed to be among them.

Ahmed Anas, 25, of Raa atoll Meedhoo island was found with multiple stab wounds in Male last Monday night. He is the second person to be killed in less than a week amidst the recent upsurge of gang violence in the capital. A man named Nadeem Abdul Raheem, 24, was killed five days before Anas' brutal murder, when he was stabbed by a group of people inside a café.

Police recently announced that they have launched a major manhunt for 34 suspects in connection with the recent string of gang violence incidents in Male. They announced the arrest of six people on the list this Sunday while more were taken into custody Monday night including minors. Police did not disclose further details.

While two youths have been killed in gang violence lately, it remains unclear whether Police have arrested any suspects connected to the murder of Nadeem Abdul Raheem.
